Gene data to hit milstone

In Nature Vol 487, 2012, the following statement is made ”Gene data to hit milestone'. With close to one million gene-expression data sets now in publicly accessible repositories, researchers can identify disease trends without ever having to enter a laboratory. Main example: NCBIs Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO).”

The combination of one million data sets with a software program which is very fast and intuitive to use opens up new ways to approach research. It is now possible for specialized bioinformaticians and research scientists to quickly analyze, visualize and
reflect on existing experimental data. This publicly available data can be used to generate new ideas or hypotheses or it can be used to validate and confirm results from studies already undertaken.

Frequently a dataset is used only to test one hypothesis. However it is certain that the data can be used for
additional analysis. This giant resource, in GEO, is easy to access using Qlucore Omics Explorer.
