Qlucore Newsletter: The Vital Role of RNA Sequencing in Modern Diagnostics

A recent paper* published in the Lancet discovery science suite of journals underscores the importance of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) in the field of diagnostics and translational research. The study performed by Tang et al. highlights several key areas where RNA-seq is making a significant impact. This is particularly evident in the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic neoplasia, such as pediatric B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL).

Implementing RNA-seq into clinical practice is now also straightforward. Qlucore Diagnostics software from Qlucore, is the first CE-marked RNA-seq based diagnostic test for pediatric leukemia under Europe’s IVDR framework. It is available and used by customers. The solution is based on standard RNA-seq lab workflows and kits.

*More on the paper:

An artificial intelligence-assisted clinical framework to facilitate diagnostics and translational discovery in hematologic neoplasia. Tang, Ming et al. eBioMedicine, Volume 104, 105171.

The study highlights the following values by using RNA-seq:

  • RNA-seq generates gene expression profiles that are highly useful for subtyping hematologic neoplasias.
  • Targeted RNA-seq is a cost-effective alternative for diagnostics.
  • RNA-seq aids real-time decisions - by accurately identifying high-risk patients.
  • RNA-seq data combined with clinical data supports diagnostics, offering a more holistic view of patient health.
