Four examples of research from different areas

Generic methods enable focus on the scientific question

Qlucore Omics Explorer is based on generic mathematical and statistical methods. The majority of the functionality can be used on any type of multivariate data with the objective of generating answers to a wide range of scientific questions. Below are examples of some of the publications generated with the support of Qlucore Omics Explorer during the last six months. They span areas such as; new in vitro model for livers, Diabetes, Cancer and Atlantic salmons, and are good examples on the diversity of research being conducted with the assistance of Qlucore Omics Explorer.

The first example is from a group of scientists at Karolinska Institute, University of Liverpool and Janssen. The group has developed a new 3D in vitro model for improved analysis of liver injuries and liver diseases;Nature Scientific Reports 2016.

Type 2 diabetes is characterized by progressive loss of pancreatic beta cell mass and function. Therefore it is of therapeutic interest to identify factors with the potential to improve beta cell proliferation and insulin secretion. One conclusion in this study is that Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) is a potential pharmacological target for the treatment of beta cell dysfunction; Diabetologia 2016.

In California scientists from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and Cancer research and the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine have studied Glioma tumor-initiating cells (GTICs). The paper highlights the potential for human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) for studying human tumorigenesis; Nature Communications, 2016.

Norway breeds significant amounts of salmon. This study is titled “Dietary vitamin A supplementation ameliorates the effects of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)”; Aquatic Toxicology, 2016.
